We invited distinguished artist April Banks to create a special installation for the entrance path to Cal Shakes’s Bruns Ampitheater that responded to the themes in the production of Spunk.

Meditating on journey — the journey of life, the journeys chronicled in the play, the physical journey up the path (strenuous!) and the journey the play asks audience members to take — April created a playful and subtly challenging set of signs that take off on road signs with some suggestions for how to prepare the mind for a complicated journey.

Herself a passionate world traveler, April is a good person to listen to if you’re embarking on a journey through unfamiliar terrain.
